Today we learned about the 8th Fundamental of Victory – People! So often our struggles in life involve other people. As we have studied, Paul used his time in prison (when he had every reason to be focused on himself) to learn about Jesus by studying the Scriptures and to invest in and instruct people with his letters. Paul found great J-O-Y in people by using the same formula we can! Put Jesus first, then Others, then Yourself. When ministering to others, here are a few principles about people that we can follow like Paul. He said that the Philippians were (1) in his heart – They had the same Holy Spirit and therefore could connect spiritually in their inmost being. Outwardly they fellowshipped together by laboring together in the Kingdom of God, by discussing spiritual things, and by praying for one another. Paul invested in faithful people he could trust with much. Also, because of their faithfulness, Paul could entrust them with his heart. He felt deeply for his friends and was vulnerable enough to get hurt. We too should love the faithful people in our lives this way, remembering that Lk. 17:1 tells us it is impossible for offenses not to come. We should count on God (Phil. 4:19) and appreciate people (1 Thes. 5:12). Paul also said that his people were (2) in his prayers. He prayed for their development and their display of God’s love. He served them in deed by pointing them to Jesus. That is the best thing we can do for those we love. We should love in this order: 1. Spirit 2. Soul 3. Body.
In conclusion, Kathy reminded us that people are part of the process God is working out in our lives. People are like midwives, helping to birth the new things God is doing. We are pregnant with the love of God! This week we are examining our lives for goals that may be getting in the way of having victory in our relationships. We are asking God to help us love in a way that brings Him glory.
